Many Former Political Prisoners Dying in Abject Poverty, Whilst a Few Get Richer on their Money.
REST IN PEACE ALEXANDRE FREITAS, AFTER YOUR LIFE OF ABJECT POVERTY.
Alexandre Freitas was born in Gamana –Uaitame –Quelicai 7.10.1977. He was arrested in Quelicai on 11.6.1997 for his pro-independence activism and was first jailed in Becora jail before being taken to LP Kalicocok Surabaya, before being moved to LP Gedung Pani Demarang, and finally to Cipinang in Jakarta (same prison as Xanana Gusmao was imprisoned until being released on Indonesia’s withdrawal from Timor-Leste on 11.12.1999. Sadly he passed away on 4.12.2010. To the date of his death he and his family lived in appalling conditions as can be seen by the photo of his house. Many former prisoners are confronting these conditions daily, despite US$3 billion having been spent in Timor-Leste over the last three years alone. RIP comrade and condolences to your family.
LEST WE FORGET YOUR SELFLESSNESS AND SACRIFICE.
