"FRETILIN Secretary General Denies Reports he Will Candidate for President"
On 2 March 2012 Kompas.com wrongfully reported: “Alkatiri has also expressed his desire to be a candidate for President of Timor Leste in 2012.”
“This is totally incorrect. I have never said this, to a Kompas or any other journalist, nor have I have said words that in any way imply this. I am extremely surprised by this report. I am seeking a retraction and correction from Kompas and all other media outlets that have carried this false report,’ Said Dr Alkatiri from Jakarta today.
Dr. Alkatiri also added that similarly, he has never said nor implied to anyone he has met during his current visit to Indonesia that he desired or intended to run for president. “The same goes for any conversations had between me and all our Indonesian friends with whom I have met during this visit,” he added.
